DJ Hero 2 comes out October 19 and, at an exclusive sneak leak listening party inside Hollywood's My Studio Thursday night, we got to chat with super DJ A-Trak (Fools Gold, Kanye West, etc) who contributes two tracks on the game.

Before he was go-to guy for rap stars and a re-mix master, Trak was a big scratch champ, so we wondered if his cuts (a raucous version of Justice's ubiquitous "D.A.N.C.E." and a mash-up of Naughty By Nature 's "O.P.P." and Jackson 5's "ABC") would be turntable toughies. They were somewhat challenging for us, but then our brief tenure as a "DJ" consisted of playing whole unmashed songs and fading in between (the horror!). Today's laptop poppers shouldn't have too much trouble, though.

"I kept in mind that people had to be able to perform these songs," he told us. Still, he knows people expect "shock and awe" from him and he promises he didn't fall short. "There's a lot going on-- a lot of samples, scratch solos... I just kind of exaggerated what I already do and what an acclaimed DJ would know how to do."

As with Guitar Hero and its faux axe, being dexterous on the toy turntables doesn't equal being dope on the real thing. A good DJ is about rhythmic timing, intuitive beat matching and of course reading the crowd, but playing the game will hone reflexes and studying the stellar line-up of spinners and their uniquely mashed selections (over and over and over) can surely be educational.

The roster is impressive too. Along with A-Trak, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Shadow, RZA, Diplo, Tiesto and Z-Trip all contribute this time out. For those of us with slow hands, 2 also has the super-easy party mode of Guitar Hero and more mic capability for aspiring MCs and singers. In fact, if the trailer below is any indication, Activision is --smartly-- marketing to aspiring vocalists nearly as much as steel wheelers. A lot of young girls wanna-be Gaga after all, and this clip just may sell more units because of it.

The first installment of the game did well, but some changes were obviously made, most notably soundtrack-wise. DJ1 was heavy on mash-ups of dance classics, and 2's got 'em too, along with more contemporary and electronic faves. See the masher-master and individual track lists below. If these sounds don't make for a floor-burning party-popping soundtrack, we don't know what does.
