84-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Sedan vs Pedestrian Collision near Pierce Street

THERMAL, CA (April 16, 2024) – One man died Tuesday evening, in a pedestrian crash on Avenue 70.

At approximately 9:35 p.m., police arrived at the location just west of Pierce Street near the Salton Sea. An incident occurred involving a 2022 Toyota Camry traveling eastbound. The driver struck a man who had entered the traffic lanes after walking along the northbound shoulder of the road.

There, the 84-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. However, the identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed to the public. The driver of the Camry, a 22-year-old male, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the ongoing investigation.

Authorities from Thermal are urging any witnesses of the fatal pedestrian crash on Avenue 70 to reach out to the CHP Indio office at 760-772-5300. Further information will be provided once it becomes available.
