Optimistic rockers Nada Surf begin a two-night stint at the Troubadour tonight in support of their sixth album, if i had a hi-fi (palindrome alert).

The record, in stores June 8, is actually a covers collection rounding up work by artists as disparate as Kate Bush, Arthur Russell, San Diego indie band Soft Pack and obscure Cleveland songwriter Bill Fox.

If i had a hi-fi's first single "Electroction" originally hails from the last name on that list. Fox was the frontman of cult '80s garage-pop outfit the Mice, which inspired contemporary rockers like Guided By Voices and Superchunk.

Now there's a video to go with, directed by Eli Stonberg (Passion Pit, Daedelus, Tune-Yards), and you can watch it below. And good news: It includes plenty of silhouette shots of bassist Daniel Lorca's awesome alt-rock dreads.

Though it won't be in stores until next week, if i had a hi-fi will be available direct from the band tonight and tomorrow at the Troubadour.
