Harry Potter fans are an extremely passionate, tight-knit community.
Ever since the books first came out, fans have been getting together online and in person to discuss J.K. Rowling's wizarding world and the cast of beloved characters she created. In 2007, the minds behind Harry Potter fan site The Leaky Cauldron got together to form an exclusive Harry Potter fan convention, which they appropriately named LeakyCon.
LeakyCon is known for its Wizard Rock concerts, fervent fan-fiction discussions, cosplay and cast-member panels. Since it began in Boston in 2009, LeakyCon has been hosted by cities from Orlando to Chicago. Last week and weekend, Burbank got its turn.

Cassandra Peterson — the actress who's spent the last 35 years bringing to life beloved B-movie maven and pop-culture icon Elvira — hosted a spectacular soiree on the rooftop of the Roosevelt Hotel to celebrate the publishing of her new "coffin-table" book, Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark: A Photographic Retrospective of the Queen of Halloween.
Guests included Dita Von Teese, Frances Cobain, Dave Navarro, Julie Newmar, Perez Hilton, Jackie Beat and a slew of other L.A. party people. Didn't make it to the party? Peterson is signing copies of the book — which is filled with more than 300 images of the gothic sex symbol — at the Barnes & Noble at the Grove on Oct. 26.
Ghouls, ghosts and goblins arose from the Dark Harbor to take over the Queen Mary on opening night, Thursday, Sept. 29. The annual event features six haunted mazes, a 4-D theater experience, hundreds of monsters, DJs, cabanas and fire dancers. Dark Harbor runs for 22 haunted evenings through Oct. 31.

The Emmys are over, the last of the big red-carpet events has shuttered its doors, and we have winners and losers. Luckily for us, everyone at gifting suites is a winner. You get a bra, and you get a bra, and you get a bra — everyone gets a bra!
This year we limited ourselves to only two suites, one the week before the awards, the Emmys Ultimate Primetime TV Lounge, and the other the gold standard of gifting lounges, the GBK and Pilot Pen Lounge at Viceroy L’Ermitage Beverly Hills.
Things we loved: 100 pens from Pilot including the G2 Limited and Ageless; Belmond La Samanna, offering three nights' vacation in St. Martin; perennial favorite the Artisan Group, showcasing a collection of handmade gifts; the AudioCube Bluetooth speaker; Mavea's Water Filter Carafe; Gift Wrap My Face; Burke Williams Spa; Beauty Kitchen by Heather Marianna; 7 Charming Sisters; Wrapped in a Cloud; Canada Bliss Hat Company; Bread Basket Cake Co.; Ike’s Place; and Heitz Wine Cellars.
"Drive-thru metal" band Mac Sabbath, a fast food–themed Black Sabbath tribute band — what else? — delivered a haunting performance at the Regent Theater on Friday, Aug. 5. Also on the summer's weirdest bill were PPL MVR, a power-rock trio of Sasquatch-like creature and horror-punk pioneers Haunted Garage. And the fans were just as colorful and creative as the bands.
