Long a thoughtful and probing presence on the local dance scene, Zina Bethune bears credentials that include adventurous excursions into the realm of dance theater and some of the earliest exploratory efforts to incorporate wheelchair-bound dancers into dance performances. Based on a Ray Bradbury short story and highlighted by a guest video appearance by actor Michael York, Frost and Fire is the debut venture of Theater Bethune, an expansion of Bethune Theatredanse. Bethune assumes both choreographer and director hats, aided by original music from Zeljko Marasovich, video projections by Michael Masucci and a cast of dancers, actors and digital artists, to consider a world in which people have an average lifespan of eight days and two individuals seek to escape their fate. Alex Theater, 216 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale; Fri., Nov. 9, 8:30 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 10, 2:30 & 8:30 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 11, 2:30 & 7:30 p.m.; $25-$45, $25 seniors, students and children.
