Jacaranda never seems to disappoint. This dynamic group, composed of some of L.A.s most talented musicians, loves to program works guaranteed to amaze the ear and stretch the mind. The 20062007 season comes to a whopping finale this weekend with some death-defying numbers, including Alban Bergs Piano Sonata No. 1 and Arnold Schoenbergs Six Little Piano Pieces, Op. 19, performed by Piano Spheres virtuosi Mark Robson and Gloria Cheng; Mahlers Six Songs From the Four Wunderhorn Symphonies, featuring the astonishing bass-baritone Dean Elzinga, accompanied by Robson; Schoenbergs Ode to Napoleon, Op. 41, performed by Elzinga, Cheng and the Denali Quartet; and Schuberts lovely mixed-ensemble chamber work, The Song of the Spirits Over the Water, performed by violists Robert Brophy and Alma Lisa Fernandez, cellists Stephen Erdody and Timthy Loo, double bassist Nico Abondolo, and the Jacaranda Mens Vocal Ensemble.
