Where the Chefs Eat is an ongoing series in which we ask a local chef to give us his or her favorite dining options. This week, we check in with Govind Armstrong.

Like many of us, Govind Armstrong has a list of favorite eateries to match different needs. Rather than nerd out on the food alone, the chef of Willie Jane and Post & Beam has recommendations for all kinds of occasions: happy hour, a place to sit and work, or a fancy night out. Or perhaps just a really good taco. See below for Armstrong's five L.A. restaurant recommendations.

5. El Taurino

"It's a little off the beaten path, but if you're willing to venture to Olympic and Hoover, the carnitas, santos tacos and the sweet tamale are worth the journey."

4. Graffiti Café
"This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots because it's cool, low-key and always has good music playing. This is the perfect place to bring your computer and get some work done."

3. Sycamore Kitchen Bakery
"I haven't had a dish I didn't like here. The polenta and blackberry cake, however, might be my favorite."

2. Mud Hen Tavern
"It's a comfortable space with great energy and a solid happy hour. I love the chicken and waffle croquette and the tuna ceviche with avocado, tangerine, chipotle and toasted corn."
