So what's the No. 1 restaurant in Los Angeles, according to Gold?
Providence, Michael Cimarusti's sustainable seafood, intensely seasonal fine-dining restaurant, which, incidentally, is also the place we named "Best Restaurant" in our most recent Best of Los Angeles issue.
Urasawa comes in at No. 2, Spago at No. 3, the Mozza empire at No. 4, and the top five is rounded out by a food truck: Kogi (the only Roy Choi enterprise on the list). The only other food truck on the list is Mariscos Jalisco.
There's a lot that's interesting about the list, but to see it you'll have to get past the L.A. Times paywall. There are sure to be comparisons to our recent 99 Essentials list, so here's the link to that, as well as all of Gold's previous lists. Have fun eating!
Editor's note: Or, as Gold emailed us this morning, "The 101 is basically the latest result of my OCD-like compulsion to make lists of restaurants I like. It's my way of making concrete order out of abstract sensory experience. And yes, I do often imagine Leporello singing the Catalogue Aria: '91 in Turkey, but in Spain, 1,003...''' Of course he does.
