Happily in time for Halloween, the u-pick apple farms in Oak Glen are in the midst of a great season. Heirloom varieties of apples, pressed cider, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and a chance to get out of town for some farm nostalgia. Oh, and some of the best caramel apples around. Just head west from L.A. to Yucaipa, about 100 miles east and almost up 5,000 feet up into the hills. No, you can't climb the apple trees. But you can think about it.
