It's October at Los Angeles farmers markets, which means a ton of pumpkins -- Halloween being almost here -- and an increasing number of apples, including some pretty stunning heirloom varieties. Look for persimmons, some tomatoes, pears, pomegranates and even, if you're lucky, the exotic finger limes. And yes, all this tastes as good as it looks.
