Art, Magic and Beautiful People Ventured Up 70 Floors for Artopia

On Saturday, Nov. 5, DJs, performance artists, musicians and a silver-dancing-robot monster took over three levels at the top of US Bank Tower for Artopia, L.A. Weekly's annual celebration of homegrown creativity. On an outdoor terrace that had been transformed to resemble an underwater landscape by inflatables artist Doron Gazit, a four-piece combo of noise artists played into the night air. Inside, performance artist Jeepneys (and company) staged periodic dance performances before a video screen; the Institute of Art and Olfaction introduced the smells of L.A. — one sweet, one sour — to curious sniffers; attendees lounged on pink, squishy pillows and played a video game with a plush controller shaped like a vagina; and magician Simone Turkington roved around blowing people's minds. (And that's not the half of it.)

All the while guests were treated to the views of downtown from the new OUE Skyspace, not to mention discounted rides down the SkySlide.
