Welcome Back, Pyongyang BBQ Truck: We're On To You

To quote the ever articulate George W. Bush, "Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me... you can't get fooled again."

Yes, the taco truck/marketing ploy that duped a lot of us last summer is back in L.A. slinging cheap tacos and promoting Communist ideals, as well as shoot 'em up video game Homefront, GrubStreet reports.

The Pyongyang Express truck is the product of THQ, the company that will release Homefront on March 15. The game takes place in 2027 and centers around a North Korean invasion of the United States. Cashing in on the popularity of food trucks in L.A., particularly the Korean taco variety, THQ thought it would be fun to create a North Korean version and set it loose on our streets, touting the slogan "Subsidized Good Food for a Better America" and sporting a massive Kim Jong-il decal.

The funny part of it all was that so many people took it at face value. LA Taco, EaterLA and even GrubStreet reported its unveiling like it would that of any other truck. (Although we didn't. Jonathan Gold thought it sounded like a joke, and alas, it was.)

But what's even funnier is that despite its Communist theme, the Pyongyang truck exploits Capitalist principles pretty well, selling tacos for $1, thereby undercutting most other local taco trucks by half.

This time, however, THQ is also launching a truck in San Francisco where they'll be giving away tacos for free. Free? That's not very egalitarian, now is it.

You can catch the Pyongyang Express Truck in L.A. and San Fran between Feb. 22 and March 21. Follow the truck on Twitter @PyongyangBBQ.
