Tony's Darts Away: 2nd Anniversary Party
Bartenders are happy at Tony's Darts Away
All Craft. All Draught. All California. That's the motto at Tony's Darts Away in Burbank. With 40 taps of the Golden State's very finest beer, TDA is a beer bar you should know if you are a beer fan. Even though the place is celebrating its second anniversary this Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., the ambiance is that of a cozy old dive bar that goes back well into the last century. And it does. Owner Tony Yanow tells us that the original bar goes back to the 1960s with elements like bookies and license problems.
Tony's offers the certified "Honest Pint" pour.
When you walk into Tony's now, it still has that warm, old-school feeling, with a pool table in the back, board games galore, and even a beer book library numbering 300 strong that comes from Yanow's personal collection. Customers are allowed to take the books home on an honor system.
Yanow gives a lot of the credit for Tony's success to Paige Reilly, the resident beer savant for both Tony's and Mohawk Bend. Reilly made Zagat's list of "30 Under 30" rising stars in the wonderful world of food and beverage. Yanow discovered Reilly working at Blue Palms Brewhouse and recognized not only her talent and knowledge but her positive spirit and joy for all things California and craft.
Saturday's all-day, all-night party will feature Reilly's hand-selected list of "special beers." Thirty dollars will get you a wristband good for five generous (Yanow tells us most pours will be 6 ounces) taster pours in a Tony's Darts Away commemorative glass. If you need more beer, additional wristbands will be available. Finally, Yanow is a dedicated vegan and that shows in the menu at all of his places. Saturday will be no different, but there will be plenty of choices for non-vegans as well.
