A beloved L.A. chef returns for one night only. A really cool pasta pop-up lands for an evening at a South Pasadena wine shop. One of the South's best chefs cooks with one of L.A.'s best chefs. There are lots of cool food events happening in L.A. all the time, but each of the next three weeks holds a guest-chef event that seems especially worth checking out.

Saturday, Feb 13: Evan Funke at Cofax
Since chef Evan Funke left Bucato back in May of last year, we've missed so much about his cooking, in particular his fantastic porchetta. Luckily, this Saturday at Cofax he gives us a chance to taste that piggy goodness. From 4 to 10 p.m., he'll be serving porchetta sandwiches for $10 a pop, with the option to add an egg for $2 more. 440 N. Fairfax Ave., Fairfax; cofaxcoffee.com.
Friday, Feb 19: Cento Pasta Bar at Mission Wines
Chefs Avner Levi and Santos Uy of the DTLA pasta pop-up Cento Pasta Bar are heading to Mission Wines in South Pasadena for a one-night pairing of Italian cooking and Italian wines for $25. Part cooking demo, part tasting, the event pairs three dishes such as fresh gnocchi with marinara alongside a trio of wines hand-picked by Mission Wine's staff. 1114 Mission St., South Pasadena; shop.missionwines.com.
Saturday, Feb 27: Mike Lata at Maude
Maude chef Curtis Stone is teaming up with South Carolina chef Mike Lata for a special 12-course dinner to benefit the National Young Farmers Coalition. Each chef will prepare six dishes, inspired by Maude's vegetable of the month, the potato. Lata is the chef/owner at two of the best restaurants in the South, Fig and the Ordinary. He's one of my favorite chefs in the country, and while this dinner is super pricy ($375 per person — yipes!), it's a great chance to try Lata's cooking without having to leave L.A. 212 S. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills; mauderestaurant.com.
