This Pop-Up Coffee Shop Has a New Semi-Permanent Home — in a Shipping Container
Shreebs' shipping container in the Arts District
Last time we checked in with Shreebs, they had just moved on from their most recent home, a weekly pop-up coffee shop at HD Buttercup in Culver City, and were readying for a new location "either in the Arts District or on Abbot Kinney."
Well, that new location is now open, and, like so many other new spots these days, it's in the Arts District. It's also inside of an old shipping container, painted sexy summer colors and cut open to create an ideal street-side pit stop.
Shreebs' shipping container is plopped alongside a similarly constructed one, occupied by juice bar The Juice, on the corner of Colyton and Palmetto streets. The plot has been outfitted with bright green Astroturf, wide-brimmed umbrellas and some wooden tables and seating. It's an oasis of caffeine and cold-pressed juice in the shadow of a Brutalist DWP building.
Arts District Shreebs keeps the drinks list small, serving up the brand's popular horchata cold-brew latte along with pour-overs of single-origin coffee, straight-up cold-brew coffee, a few kinds of teas and a jamaica agua fresca. A new Choco-Chile Cold-Brew Latte includes a bath of cane sugar and crushed red pepper flakes cooked up by a nearby chef who hosts dinners in his Arts District loft. You can also get 32-ounce "Shreeblet" growlers of cold brew for $16.
On their website and Instagram, Shreebs is still calling the Arts District location a pop-up, but when asked on a recent visit how long they would be staying, one employee said they are feeling it out, seeing how it goes and keeping an open mind about the possibilities. There is also the mobile coffee bar that first caught L.A. coffee drinkers' eyes, which continues to pop up at art events, clothing boutiques and more.
