The New Year's Most Exciting New Bar Update: La Descarga
, we promised an update as soon as possible. Here's what we got: Opening Feb. 2nd.,La Descarga
, slang for go crazy" or "after party", is a 1930s rum bar. The exact location is still undisclosed but it isn't downtown and the crew (also on the d.l.) is comprised of a handful of L.A.'s best cocktailians and bar owners.
The cocktail program, though heavy on rum, (Daiquiris and all variations thereof, Swizzles, Mojitos) will also offer options like punch bowls for two, small batch bourbons, single village tequilas and more than a few mind-blowing twists on the classics.
An outdoor bar serves cigars (ahem) and rum flights while inside, some serious gold plated bar equipment lends a melodious chonk as shakers flash under the lights to a live mambo band and dancing girls teeter dangerously above the bar.
A restaurant-inspired reservation policy ensures you're seated and given the bartenders and/or cocktail waitresses full attention. Walk-ins will be welcome but securing a table by telephone or email is encouraged. Keep your eyes peeled for the website, going live in the next few days.
Also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention, once again, the ingenuity of the entrance but here's the thing: Remember how mad you were when your stupid friend revealed the end of The Crying Game to you before you saw it? Describing entering La Descarga would be just like that - the show's still great but experiencing the full monte is worth the wait.
Check back here for a final update next week when all the rest will be revealed....
