If you frequent Miracle Mile (or Councilmen Tom LaBonge's house, maybe), food trucks might be a nuisance, or something you can cheerfully take for granted, at least for now. Not so Granada Hills, which, along with many other outlying communities, has not seen the congregation of food trucks that other more centrally located neighborhoods have. To remedy this, the Granada Hills Neighborhood Councils and Linda Williamson of the local blog Giga Granada Hills have organized a movie night and food truck fest in that northern town. Williamson says that "the food truck revolution has barely touched us here, although it's already old news in L.A. We're only 25 minutes north of downtown but we might as well be on the moon as far as most food trucks are concerned."
Thus next Saturday, September 11th, at 6 p.m. a convoy of food trucks will park at Granada Hills Recreation Center, and after you eat your dinner, courtesy of Vizzi truck, Gourmet Genie, Crepen Around, Munchie Machine, Papas Tapas and others, you can hang out and watch The Incredibles. Dinner and a movie, circa 2010.
Williamson says that unlike many food truck fests, this event is free, part of the non-profit community movie night. "Funny thing is," says Williamson about the food trucks, "a ton of them use a commissary just a few miles away from us before they head back over the hill to ignore us. Granada Hills is starving!" Well, they won't be next Saturday.
