The Feast: From NBC to DailyCandy
In somewhat old, but oh-so-relevant blog news, NBC sold its one-year-old site The Feast to DailyCandy, another site specializing in e-newsletters city-specific coverage of things like food, fashion and culture. NBC and both sites are owned by Comcast, but The Feast's brand is only expected to last until sometime next year when DailyCandy folds the site into part of the DailyCandy brand. Comcast bought DailyCandy three years ago for $125 million.
The Feast originated last year from a blog run by 11 local NBC affiliate sites across the country. Site-overseer Ben Leventhal is staying on with The Feast until the transition is complete, then he should be headed back to NBC. No word yet on any potential job losses due to the sale. NBC stations are supposedly focusing more on hard news coverage and less on DailyCandy-type stories.
"As we've been making investments in our news gathering operations to deliver more local news and information, that extends to all of our platforms," said Greg Scholl, President of Local Integrated Media for the NBC Owned Stations. "For that reason, it made sense to transition The Feast to DailyCandy, where it is a better fit."
