October is creeping up on us, with or without this unexpected heat wave. Angelenos patiently waited in the 90-degree heat at the Abbot Kinney Street Festival on Sunday, September 26th, salivating over grilled cheese sandwiches, fried shrimp, bánh mì, funnel cakes and kitschy L.A. food trucks. If you didn't get your fill there will be a Gourmet Food Truck Festival October 16th.
Valley folk must have been suffering more than usual this month, but were hopefully consoled by Encino and Studio City restaurant openings. Longtime Chinese restaurant, Chi Dynasty opened a second location, as did longtime family-run Indian restaurant Anarbagh. A mozzarella bar which opened in the Century City mall might have made Nancy Silverton sweat (but we doubt that), and Test Kitchen is still up and running, changing chefs weekly. Sadly, Anisette officially closed despite some uncertainty. When one door closes, another opens. A candy truck in time for Halloween perhaps?
