Roadside Eats Now Open in Hollywood + Free Chips & Drink Today
Meal at Roadside Eats
Roadside Eats, a new Southern-inspired sandwich shop, will open for lunch today, September 12 at the Arclight complex. It'll join the growing list of restaurant options -- Stella Barra Pizzeria and Veggie Grill, to name some -- conveniently close for hungry movie-goers unsatisfied with just theater popcorn and soda for a meal.
Brought on as chef-partner by owners Ken Kaufman and Brian McKeaney, Dave Northrup
developed a menu that harks back in part to childhood experiences in the South. The fast casual restaurant is somewhat of a departure for the three who previously collaborated on bringing two gastropubs Rush Street and City Tavern to Downtown Culver City.
You don't have spend any extended time in the South to recognize familiar highlights of the region on the menu, including a Carolina-style pulled pork sandwich, Cajun-glazed shrimp po'boys and fried green tomato BLT's. Perhaps more of a nod to its Hollywood surroundings, sandwiches can be made 'greens-style,' which means you can turn any one of them into a salad.
There'll be seasonal sides and salads as well, such as a slightly spicy watermelon and edamame salad. Jessica Christensen, chef at City Tavern, helped develop condiments and sides like pimento cheese and pickled green tomatoes to complement the meaty entrees. Meanwhile, fried cherry, apple, or peach pies are among a handful of desserts offered for anyone looking to sweeten themselves up before catching a flick. Sweet tea, of course, will also be available as an option for refreshment, in addition to a couple of beer taps, sodas, and housemade lemonade. For now, expect PBR on draft, with the local beers like Ballast Point and The Dudes' in cans behind the counter.
To celebrate their opening, Roadside Eats will give all guests a free bag of Zapp's chips and a non-alcoholic beverage of choice with each sandwich order during lunch today from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
