Juicing is nothing new. The Beverly Hills Juice Club has been turning out wheatgrass shots since 1975. Today it shows no signs of slowing. There's 4-6 pounds of produce in every bottle, says Pressed Juicery co-owner Hayden Slater who, along with partners Carly Brien and Hedi Gores, are working on a seventh location in Westwood Village on Kinross Ave., next door to Angelino's Cafe.

Aiming for a mid-October opening (pending final inspections), the owners are "huge fans" of the neighborhood. It's undergoing a great comeback, says Slater, and it's exciting to be close to UCLA hospital. Customers are "everything you can imagine," ranging from granola-type yoga buffs to little kids scrounging together pennies to share a mini 8-oz. bottle.

Knowing what you put in your body is key, says Slater. While an undergrad at New York University, the native Angeleno arrived at a required yoga class and met Kris Carr, a young blonde who shared her story of being diagnosed with terminal cancer and opting out of chemotherapy for a healthier lifestyle. Inspired, Slater dedicated his life to learning more about macrobiotic foods and juicing.

"Sometimes in health and wellness, it can feel elitist," he says, "We disagree. Be the best you, whatever that may be." By the end of the year, Pressed Juicery plans to open additional locations in Beverly Hills, Montecito, El Monte and more to come. We know a few lifeguards looking for work.
