Pop Goes the Cookie: Platine Bakery Pops Up at Anya Hindmarch

Have your handbag and eat it too. The Culver City bakery, Platine Cookies, is popping up at the Anya Hindmarch shop Thursday through Saturday this week. For those of you who think a pop-up is a book with 3D illustrations, a restaurant pop-up is a temporary residence (think LudoBites). Get it while you can.

Chef Jamie Cantor, who studied pastry at the CIA Greystone in Napa and worked under Thomas Keller at the French Laundry, created a line of desserts inspired by themes of the Hindmarch fall collection, including bite-sized pumpkin cheesecakes, gourmet Ho Hos, caramel top brownies, and a tri-layer custard shot. "We are using some of their handbags as inspiration for the dessert, says Cantor. "For example, the Disco clutch has a bull's eye-type pattern on it, so we are doing a 'Ho Ho' to mimic the swirl."

15 percent of the proceeds from all Anya Hindmarch sales during the Platine pop-up will be donated to CoachArt, a non-profit that provides free, personal art and athletic lessons for children and adolescents with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. Last weekend, a group of kids from CoachArt helped Cantor out in the Platine kitchen, pressing pie dough into pans and mixing batter for chocolate babycakes. Complimentary tea and Platine treats will be available at the London-based handbag shop, from 11am-7pm November 12-14.
