Tamashii Ramen House is a Sherman Oaks ramen shop that's been open since October of 2012. Last week, a second location opened in North Hollywood, on the commercial strip along Magnolia Boulevard.
The chef, Akira Imamura, worked at Jinya before opening Tamashi. Prior to that, he owned and operated a Californian/Italian restaurant in his native Nagoya, Japan.
Imamura makes his own ramen noodles, and the noodles themselves are really the star of the show here. Thick and straight, they're perfectly chewy and satisfying. You can get shio, shoyu or black garlic tonkotsu broth, as well as a number of different spicy versions and a tan tan spicy ground pork version that comes without broth.
A "Tamashii combo" offers one huge bowl of ramen for two people, plus gyoza, crispy chicken wonton, and seaweed and cucumber salad. It's a good deal for $23.55, but there is the issue of sharing that bowl of ramen. The menu also offers sushi rolls, tempura, and rice bowls.

SHOW ME HOW
Tamashii's new location adds to the growing number of ramen spots opening in the Valley, and it is an extremely friendly addition to the North Hollywood dining scene.
