More Food in Cars: Sonic Drive-In Opens in Duarte
If you get hungry on Monday and are driving anywhere near Duarte, Sonic Drive-In officially opens its new store in that town at 6 a.m. Cherry limeades, extra-long chili cheese Coneys, whatever. The new Duarte location is the closest of the chain's drive-ins to the actual city of Los Angeles, so live it up and save some gas at the same time, instead of driving to Anaheim, Victorville or Palmdale for French toast on a stick.
Sonic began life as a hamburger and root beer stand in 1953, in beautiful Shawnee, Oklahoma; there are now over 3,500 drive-in locations. Americans do love eating in their cars. Although just why we're so fixated on eating hamburgers in our cars, watching movies in our cars (historically at least), talking on the phone and texting in our cars, when we could do all of that outside the confines of any car, even a Ford Mustang or '73 Pontiac Firebird, is beyond me. Would sure save on those detailing bills.
