Since earlier this year, a sign in the papered-up windows said "coming summer 2015." Now DJ-singer-songwriter Moby has announced that his Silver Lake restaurant Little Pine will open Nov. 19.
We've been keeping an eye on the build-out in the beautiful Art Deco building on Rowena, which for years was a project in the works called Silver Take, which had tables and chairs and a cute counter — but never opened to the public.
Now, with the paper down and the interior visible from the street, we can see a small space that, thanks to interior designer Tatum Kendrick of Studio Hus, looks sort of like a futuristic Alpine lodge, filled with plywood, ceramic tile, concrete and Carrara marble on the countertop and tables. Wallpaper was made from black-and-white photos of a forest that Moby took himself.

The organic vegan bistro and retail space plans to serve Mediterranean-inspired breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, plus weekend brunch by chef Kristyne Starling (this is a change from Little Pine's previously announced chef, Anne Thornton). For lunch, the menu includes lots of salads: a panzanella; a farro-walnut salad with squash, scallions and pomegranate; and a Mediterranean salad with kale, spigarello, olives and avocado. Dinner entrees include Italian-style dishes, like a stuffed-shell trio and "meatballs" and polenta in a marinara sauce.
To drink, there will be organic wines and teas, the latter no doubt similar in selection to what's available at Moby's other hospitality venture, TeaNY on New York's Lower East Side. According to a press release, the retail space will feature "home accessories and gifts from Moby’s favorite artisans, artists and authors."
For this sleepier, more residential side of Silver Lake, a casual neighborhood place serving breakfast, lunch and dinner should be a welcome addition. As of now, Little Pine is expected to keep incredibly long hours, from 7:30 a.m. to midnight.
