Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak Is Another Reason to Head to the Mall

After more than two decades and a career filled with accolades and awards and Michelin stars, Michael Mina is back in Los Angeles. Kind of. The chef, who began his career at the Bel Air Hotel, then went on to become the toast of San Francisco, opens Bourbon Steak today at the Americana at Brand in Glendale.

Glendale's Bourbon Steak is the 18th restaurant for Mina, who has restaurants all over the country, from Baltimore to Miami to Las Vegas. He has brought on chef Joseph Conrad (no relation to the Heart of Darkness author) to run the SoCal venture. Conrad previously was an executive sous chef at Mina's Seattle restaurant. 

With its swanky, dark wood and leather booth interior, Bourbon Steak should make masculine, monied, Glendale steak eaters deliriously happy. 

The restaurant specializes in steak and seafood, as you would expect. We got a peek at the dinner menu, and along with some insanely decadent-sounding dishes (lobster potpie) and straightforward chophouse fare, there's also fusion fun such as hamachi and tuna poppers, duck spring rolls and lobster corn dogs. Steaks range from an 8-oz. American Angus sirloin for $28 to Japanese Wagyu that costs $32 an ounce with a 3-oz. minimum. And, of course, there's truffle mac and cheese. 

Beginning today, Bourbon Steak is open daily for lunch and dinner, and the lounge will be open from 11:30 a.m. to close.
