Chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White are changing the way people cook. Or at least the gadgets they use to do it, according to a Reuters report. More men are buying cooking equipment--like the carving knife named for White that is pictured below, which comes with a frozen blade option--and they're shopping for the stuff the way they'd shop for, well, cars.
The British store Debenhams says that they're seeing less women shopping for pink cupcake pans and whatnot, and more men trolling for equipment with "muscular qualities." Says a spokeperson at the store, "Machines like microwaves, food mixers and ovens have to have the perceived strength of a nuclear bunker... They see themselves as Arnie Schwarzenegger in an apron and tend to treat the kitchen as if it was their garage." The store says that these new garage-minded male chefs now comprise 15% of their culinary sales. Guess that means that, also like Schwarzenegger, men in cooking stores are spending their budgets, such as they are, freely.
