A new restaurant deal site has launched in L.A. Livedeal, which so far has been in San Diego only, just went live in Los Angeles this week.
Livedeal aims to be different than Groupon and other deal sites in that there are no emails and nothing to buy ahead of time -- rather, you show up at the restaurant and show them your digital "coupon," and get the deal.
This isn't the first deal site that has tried for this strategy. Deals without buy-ahead vouchers are a large part of how Foursquare makes money, and Scoutmob has the same construct (though Scoutmob does send daily emails). And as of now, Livedeal in L.A. looks to be mainly a board for advertising specials that are available for everyone. And not particularly interesting specials either -- the value menu at Denny's or the taco combo at Baja Fresh, for instance.
But this is just the launch, and if you look at the deals available in San Diego, they run more along the lines of 20% off at popular, non-chain restaurants.
Livedeal is currently web-based only; an app is expected to launch in January.
