List of the Worst Fad Diets To Avoid in 2010: No Elvis Sandwiches For You

If you're contemplating a fad diet to work off some of the excesses of the holiday season, you can forget about the Cabbage Soup Diet, the Maple Syrup Diet, and, yes, the Blood Group Diet (not making this up). The British Dietetic Association, the professional association for registered dietitians in Great Britain and Northern Ireland, has come out with its list of Worst Fad Diets To Avoid in 2010. The BDA, the UK's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, founded in 1936, says that "diets don't work, especially the many weird and wonderful fad diets that stage a comeback appearance every January." Ah, no kidding. But maybe this sort of British clinical wrist-slapping might make some impression.

Along with the three mentioned above, making the list are: Detox diets, the Warrior Diet, the Zone Diet, the Adkins Diet (yup, sorry), and the Banana & Peanut Butter Diet. Anyone who thinks that last one would possibly work badly needs to take their next Christmas holiday at Graceland. If, however, you're the sort of person who's not dieting this month, but listening to Blue Suede Shoes and in need of a snack, here's The Splendid Table's recipe for an Elvis sandwich. Just go for a run in your own blue shoes instead. That sort of thing actually does work.
