The Los Angeles Fire Department was on the scene immediately to assess the extent of the damage. Firefighters kept the fire from spreading out of the attic, but water damage may not be so limited.

The Magic Castle was built in 1909 by a prominent real estate figure who wanted to plant orange groves around the property. The estate, located in what is now known as the Hollywood Hills, passed through a number of tenants before opening as the Magic Castle in 1963.
