James Beard Media & Book Awards Announced: The Winners

The James Beard Foundation has announced the winners of the 2010 James Beard Foundation Media & Book Awards. The Restaurant and Chef awards will be announced tonight. The Weekly's longtime restaurant critic Jonathan Gold has won the Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Reviews award. Cookbook of the Year went to Colman Andrews for The Country Cooking of Ireland; Claudia Roden won the Cookbook Hall of Fame award for her classic cookbook A Book of Middle Eastern Food. The award for Magazine Feature Writing without Recipes went to Barry Estabrook, for his Gourmet piece, "The Price of Tomatoes." Best Newspaper Food Section went to The Washington Post, while Best Food Blog went to Ed Levine's Serious Eats. For a complete list of the awards, go to The Beard Foundation website.

Gold's Beard award is his fifth. The awards have been given out since 1990; the Foundation was established in 1987. If you need your food writing fix -- it is only Monday after all -- here are the links to the stories for which Gold won this time: "Sauced," "Hot Birria, Cold Cerveza," "Hare Today." Raise a bottle of hot sauce in the general direction of the Lincoln Center.
