Il Sole Re-opens in West Hollywood, Paparazzi Rejoice

Say goodbye to this cozy but plain interior

Il Sole, the Sunset Strip Italian eatery where dinners are remembered for who you saw as much as what you ate, has re-opened with a new interior and an updated menu. The press informs us that Il Sole will have a "chic new feel" and "polished vibe," but will also retain a "classic feel." The stated goal is to mix "the look of a stylized trattoria with the alluring atmosphere of a classic romantic restaurant," and despite their claim of "approachable sophistication," all that happens when we think about approaching it is a headache from all of the mixed messages.

As for the menu revamp, it looks like more of a touch-up. Chef Isaac Rivera, previously of Drago, Celestino Steakhouse, and Il Sole, has focused his new-ish menu largely on Italian favorites like a"Napoli style" eggplant parmigiano with tomato sauce, basil, and mozzarella and a spaghetti with "Tuscan style" meat ragu and pomodoro sauce. He has also retained the most popular dishes from the restaurant's previous life, like their oven roasted Dover sole with lemon sauce. The re-opened Il Sole will also feature a special crudo menu and updated wine list.

The details may have changed, but we have no doubt that Il Sole will remain a destination restaurant on the Sunset Strip. Whether that is because of the Italian cooking or the people who eat there remains to be seen, but either way you should bring your finest car for the valet and the deepest pockets you can muster.
