Fit for All Constitutions: The Fifth Amendment Alehouse in Santa Monica
The beer-and-sausage package has worked quite well for a certain laser-focused Arts District restaurant, and now the Fifth Amendment Alehouse brings a similar approach to Santa Monica. Daniel Petrovich, who owns the Fifth Amendment with his wife, Eden Noe, is honest about their inspirations for the restaurant. "We're trying to bring some of the elements of Wurstküche, with some of that flavor, and combine it with Father's Office and Library Alehouse," he explains, noting they've incorporated "a 1950s feel, similar to 21st Amendment in San Francisco."

Fifth Amendment's menu also has a list of basic apps and sandwiches beyond the traditional and artisanal/exotic sausage list. If it's brats n' brocks you're after, then the Fifth will get the job done, but also gives customers a chance to branch out with elk with porcini mushroom, venison with merlot and blueberries, pheasant with cognac, and other unexpected encased meaty combos. Until the kitchen makes the sausages in-house, Noe and Petrovich are sourcing "the best we can find" from a variety of distributors. The Fifth pours 20 craft beers on tap, has over 30 bottled beers, and a wine list in its un-cloyingly retro setting that's open until midnight weekdays, and 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday nights. Happy hour is daily from 6-9 p.m.
Petrovich notes that Los Angeles perhaps being "more litigious" than our Bay Area state compatriots informed his Bill of Rights reference of choice. Hopefully the Fifth Amendment will be someplace we can all get along, 100% honestly and peacefully.
