BREADBAR Hatchi Series Continues With Sona Chef de Cuisine Kuniko Yagi
David Myers' Sona may be temporarily shutting its doors soon, but Sona's chef de cuisine Kuniko Yagi is not only still cooking at the restaurant -- which is open until May -- but she's popping up elsewhere too. Next Thursday, March 25, Yagi will be the guest chef of BREADBAR Century City's Hatchi series. Yagi traded in an banking career for a waitressing gig at an L.A. noodle house, meeting chef David Myers along the way. In three years, the StarChefs Rising Star nominee worked her way from Sona's amuse station to sous chef and in 2007, was promoted to chef de cuisine.
Yagi's "Burning Sensation" menu includes eight ($8) courses, among them harissa-marinated cod with celery root purée and crispy pig's feet; miso-marinated beef with charred green onion and burnt rice crisps; and Jidori chicken with burnt shishito pepper purée and wild mushroom. Sona pastry chef Ramon Perez joins Yagi for the event.
BREADBAR's recurring Hatchi dinner series, co-created by BREADBAR and chef Noriyuki Sugie, features a new guest chef the last Thursday of each month. The rest of Spring's line-up: SBE's Saul Cooperstein on April 29; Bond Street's Brian Redzikowski in May (date TBD).
