It feels like much longer than a year has passed since Jimmy and Yume Han opened Beer Belly, the Koreatown craft beer bar that introduced the Hite-heavy neighborhood to a volume and variety of local-brewed suds like it had never seen. But sure enough, this weekend will mark the bar's one-year anniversary, in which time it has risen from new guy on the scene to one of L.A.'s essential craft beer bars.
Fresh off last Wednesday's One Night Stand, in which Beer Belly played host to Placentia's the Bruery, Beer Belly will bust out its party hat once more this Sunday for an all-day party stretching from noon to 10 p.m. Chef Wes Lieberher, the guy who supplies L.A. with creations such as Lucky Charms pancakes, volcano chipotle hot wings and foie gras eggs Benedict, will debut a few dishes from his new upcoming menu. (The only hint we've ascertained so far is it might contain tomatillos pickled with white vinegar and black cherry cream soda.) On the taps Sunday will be a special selection of hard-to-find beers that the Hans have been accumulating over the past couple months, including:
Eagle Rock Yearling (Flanders Red Ale)
Eagle Rock Libertine (Witbier)
Eagle Rock Red Velvet (American Amber/Red Ale)
Craftsman Sour Grapes (American Wild Ale)
El Segundo Two 5 Left (Double IPA)
The Bruery Berazzled (American Wild Ale)
The Bruery Marron Acidifie (Sour Ale/Wild Ale)
Hangar 24 Hammerhead (American-style Barleywine)
Ladyface Alehouse Derailleur (Bière de Garde)
Bootleggers Anniversary Ale 79 (Belgian Strong Ale)
Ladyface Alehouse IPA
