ArtBites Cooking Korean at the Fowler Museum

Featured in the upcoming November issue of Food and Wine, ArtBites founder Maite Gomez-Rejon has worked as a private chef and a museum educator. In 2007, after baking desserts for Aerosmith ("Janie's Got a Flan" was, according to Gomez-Rejon, a specialty Tyler, Perry, and company enjoyed) and getting an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, Gomez-Rejon fused her interests in art and culinary history with ArtBites, a nomadic series of hands-on cooking classes presented in tandem with museum exhibits.

Fittingly, Gomez-Rejon describes herself as a cross between Rachael Ray and Sister Wendy, which terrifies us a little bit. RuthBourdain has nothing on SisterRay. The next local installment of ArtBites will be at UCLA's Fowler Museum on Sunday, November 14th.

To accompany the Korean Funerary Figures and Life in Ceramics exhibit, she's discussing the place of food in Korean funerary customs from the 10th and early 20th centuries--and, appropriately, cooking a spread of Korean tasties. Tickets are $40 for members, and $50 for non-members.
