Angel City Brewery is debuting its new limited-release Tart Cherry Imperial Wheat today. The slightly pink brew combines a big, strong, wheat ale (8.1% ABV) with sweet-tart Montmorency cherries sourced from a Michigan grower.

"We did some trials, tried some different processes," says head brewer Dieter Foerstner. "We decided on using a little bit of concentrate and some tart cherries, and lo and behold, it came out really well."

"We got the beer brewed up. We got our bottles and kegs packaged. It's really exciting," Foerstner says. "This was a fun beer to come up with. And it's great to see other people drinking it and enjoying it. Even for a big beer - it's 8.1% ABV - it's quite drinkable and quite refreshing. The tartness is fantastic. It's almost like an adult lemonade."

Brewed onsite at Angel City's downtown location, the beer will be available on tap starting today at the attached bar, the Public House, as well as in 22-ounce bottles at local retailers. It costs $6 for a 10-ounce pour.

Each season, Angel City brewers decide on one Limited Release Series beer to produce in small batches and bottled in special edition, silkscreened glass bottles. Angel City began in 1997, moving to the historic John A. Roebling Building in Downtown L.A. in 2010. The popular hangout-spot Public House opened last year.
