Lots of meat eaters already know the name Adam Perry Lang. After all, this is the man who brought his best-selling cookbook Serious Barbecue down from the smoked-meat mountaintop. His pedigree is perhaps even more well known: Culinary Institute of America, stints at Le Cirque, Daniel and Guy Savoy, with a string of awards from some of the biggest BBQ competitions in America along the way.
Now, in the interest of upping L.A.'s summer meat selection (and of a little self-promotion, if we're honest), Lang has set up a smoker behind Jimmy Kimmel's studio in Hollywood. The aptly-named Back Lot BBQ pop-up on the back lot of one of the entertainment industry's most notorious eaters is no coincidence -- Kimmel and Lang have long been friends, and their shared love for quality barbecue makes this one of the most enticing lunch options in the area. In fact, beginning today, Lang's smoker will be pulling out plates of short rib, tender pork butt and some seriously juicy brisket.
Operating only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from now until early September, the lot will be open to hungry eaters from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will also be limited take-out only options available from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and a series of public and private dinners that will run on the same back lot throughout the rest of the summer. Prices aren't cheap (think $15 or more), but come a portion of the proceeds will be going to a couple of different after-school programs, if that makes your clogged heart feel anything warm and fuzzy.
Of course, there's a PR catch: Lang is re-releasing his seminal BBQ book Serious Barbecue, and will be promoting the tome during his time on Kimmel's back lot. He'll also be using only Certified Angus Beef®, Big Green Egg® outdoor cookers and a line of his own Adam Perry Lang® knives for all of his slicing needs, cooking demos and private events. Still, a little bit of promotion is a small price to pay for a summer with Adam Perry Lang and plates full of his serious barbecue.
