10 Restaurant Meals That Will Make You the Fattest
On Tuesday we reported on two university studies that found that restaurant meals are really, really fattening. One meal, on average -- whether breakfast, lunch or dinner -- contains more than half the FDA's recommended daily calories for a healthy adult, as well as whopping amounts of salt and saturated fat.
Now the Weather Channel -- yes, the Weather Channel! -- has broken down exactly which meals contain the most calories, according to Tufts and University of Toronto researchers. The results may not surprise you! (And Tropical Storm Alvin could become a hurricane, just FYI.)
10. Steak: 1,506 calories. An average steak dinner, with sides, contains 1,506 calories, according to Tufts University researchers.
9. Lasagna: 1,530 calories. Hi Lasagna, we are shocked to see you here.
8. Veal Marsala, 1,574 calories. Eating veal is bad for your karma anyway.
7. Pork Fried Rice: 1,674 calories. Hint: It ain't the peas.
6. Peking Duck: 1,751 calories. Note: That is for a half-order (with sides).
5. Eggplant Parmesan: 1,948 calories. It may help prevent Parkinson's, but you will die of a heart attack first.
4. General Gau's Chicken (aka General Tso's Chicken): 1,962 calories for the deep-fried, orange-flavored, fat-saturated concoction.
3. Classic Nachos: 2,165 calories. With classic cheese, sour cream, guacamole and refried beans, of course.
2. Fettuccini Alfredo: 2,270 calories. How could that be? Oh yeah, cheese and cream.
And the No. 1 most fattening restaurant meal is...
1. Rib Dinner (with sides): 2,445 calories for a half-rack. Congratulations, ribs! Porky's revenge!
