One Pronounced Dead after Multi-Vehicle Collision near Borrego Springs Road

BORREGO SPRINGS, CA (April 16, 2024) – One victim died Friday night and six were hurt in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 78, just east of Borrego Springs Road. The incident occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m.

Currently, investigations are underway to uncover the details of the incident. Initial reports suggest that a collision involving three motorcyclists and one vehicle occurred. Despite the efforts of first responders, one individual was declared deceased at the scene.

Another person was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries, and a teenager was hospitalized for minor injuries. The remaining four patients received treatment at the scene.

As a result of the incident, all lanes of Highway 78 were closed by the California Highway Patrol until 10:00 p.m. Further information on the four-vehicle collision will be provided by San Diego County officials as it becomes available.
