If the Imperial Army ever attacked Los Angeles, this is what it would look like (video, below).

Motion-graphics guru Kaipo Jones says it took him as many as three months to complete the realistic-looking video project he calls "an experiment."

It started with "taking shots ... around town" and then sitting down to "animate, composite, tweak," he says in a behind-the-scenes video.

The result, "Star Wars: Invasion Los Angeles," has gone viral, amassing nearly 300,000 views since its posting over the weekend.

Upcoming Events

Dogfights and land battles occur over or near the Queen Mary, the Vincent Thomas Bridge, LAX, Santa Monica Pier, the Two Rodeo shopping promenade, the L.A. County Museum of Art's Urban Light installation, the Chinese Theater, a Disney-remixed Hollywood sign, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Griffith Observatory and more.

There are plenty of Disney references.

Disney owns Lucasfilm, which owns the Star Wars franchise. Maybe this is a bid to get on the good side of the copyright holders here. We'd opine that the two-minute video is safe from a parody standpoint.

But even Fox's Family Guy got permission from Lucasfilm for its own Star Wars spoofs.

Going to court for this kind of expression is no fun, even if you're on the side of justice. So good luck, Kaipo. We enjoyed it. We hope, for your sake, that George does, too.
