Celebrity attorney Gloria Allred has signed up to represent the family of a man authorities say was slain by an off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer last week.

That cop, 27-year-old Henry Solis, is actually an ex-cop now because LAPD Chief Charlie Beck terminated his employment yesterday. Solis was a probationary officer and thus did not enjoy the protection and internal due process afforded more veteran law enforcers.

Allred last night announced that a vigil and prayer session will be held to memorialize 23-year-old victim Solome Rodriguez, Jr., whom Pomona police say was gunned down early Friday by Solis.

According to a statement from Rodriguez's family, sent by Allred's office, the victim was a religious man:

As most of you know or have now become aware our son Salome was a Catholic missionary at a young age. Therefore we request that out of respect for him and his family that we maintain peace at the vigil to honor him and his family's wishes.

Family members started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for Rodriguez's funeral.

"Our son was full of life and was taken from us too young," the family states, "but his memory will live on forever."

Solis hasn't been to work since the parking lot shooting, and his car was found blocks away from the area where it happened. Cops say the attack was preceded by a confrontation at a nearby bar.

On Monday the Pomona Police Department issued a warrant for the ex-officer's arrest.

The vigil happens tonight at 7:30 p.m. on a sidewalk "near where he collapsed" at 360 W. Third St., according to the statement.

Yes, Allred will be there.
