L.A.'s masked crusaders might not be able to gather near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue (thanks to tourist complaints and violent clashes between the characters), but they were out in full force over the weekend.

A call to arms for costumed superheroes to unite for a Guinness record-breaking gathering of the spandex-clad faithful was met by 1,580, according to CBS2, putting the day at the Convention Center downtown in the record book.
Curbed LA notes that a previous attempt to break the costumed-superhero record in August barely even drew a few souls. But that one took place at Hollywood and Highland, where police have been know to swoop in like Superman trying to turn back time.
The weekend event was held to promote the Nov. 5 release of the animated DreamWorks film Megamind. Will Ferrell stars and was on-hand to egg on the crowd of crusaders:
"We'd love it if you guys could break another world record and stay in your costumes for the entire month if that's possible," Ferrell joked, according to KNX 1070 Newsradio. "No showers ... "
