USC (Trojans) Wins Trademark Victory Against, Er, USC (Gamecocks)
In a battle of who can use the acronym "SC," our Goliath triumphed over their David Monday when the U.S. Supreme Court shut the door on an appeal from the University of South Carolina.
That SC wanted to use the letters on school-branded clothing. Our SC has a trademark and has sold tens of millions worth of apparel using the acronym, according to Associated Press.
The Southern school has tried to use the "SC" moniker since 1997, but USC was using it before then -- with trademark.
The Trojans' own chant, "Fight On," mentions the letters "SC" and dates to 1922:
Fight On for ol' SC
Our men Fight On to victory.
Our Alma Mater dear,
looks up to you
Fight On and win
For ol' SC
Fight On to victory

In University of South Carolina v. University of Southern California the Trojans have eked out a victory for the ages. But the Gamecocks.
According to the real SC's football schedule, South Carolina won't be able to avenge the loss any time soon, either.
