Upskirt Picture Taker Foiled By Victim's Own Photos, LAPD Says

It's upskirt season in Los Angeles.

The combination of warm weather and accessible technology (smartphones, tablets) has conspired to create a tidal wave of perversion in the Southland.

The latest victim was going about her business at a Panorama City ampm market when she noticed a creep taking shots with his cellphone:

According to an LAPD statement:

... He was seen by a customer pointing his cellphone under a woman's skirt in line at a Panorama City AM PM store, April 3, 2013. His actions were also captured on video tape.

It happened at an ampm at Roscoe Boulevard and Ventura Canyon Avenue. The woman followed the guy to the parking lot and took pictures of the suspect and of the license plate on his car, the LAPD says. Touche.

Cops then went to work and tracked down Joaquin Cortes Rodriguez, a 33-year-old Monrovia man, over the weekend, they said.

The 27-year-old victim picked Rodriguez out of a lineup, according to an LAPD statement.

Rodriguez was arrested on a "peeping tom charge," cops said, and jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail. He's a previous deportee and allegedly reentered the United States, so U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement would also like a word with him.

LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon:

This case shows how widespread cameras really are; there are cameras watching cameras. And thanks to the observant witness and the quick actions of the victim, we have a good reminder for men: Be a gentleman! And ask yourself how would you feel if this happened to your sister or daughter?
