UPDATE: Developer And Westside Power Player Doug Ring Might Have Committed Suicide
Developer Doug Ring was found dead in his Brentwood home Thursday, and a coroner's official says the attorney and husband of former Westside city Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski might have committed suicide.
"The initial report from the police said that was a possibility,'' said coroner's investigator Jerry McKibben. "It's being investigated as a suicide versus a natural death, based on what the police found at the scene.''
UPDATE: Miscikowski got the news while she was in China as part of a Port of Los Angeles delegation attending a shipping conference. She is the president of the Board of Harbor Commissioners, which is the body that oversees the port. A port official said Miscikowski was due to return tomorrow but rushed home this morning.

Ring was also known for his involvement in politics, including appointments to city committees, the successful effort to rebuild the Central Library downtown, and campaign contributions that include support of Sen. Barbara Boxer.
His company had extensive land holdings in Marina Del Rey, where environmentalists had battled with Ring over the years.
McKibben told the Los Angeles Times that Ring might have overdosed on pills, the type of which was not immediately known.
In the last year Ring had resigned from one of his many community board positions after complaining of back pain.
Ring was 65.
