UCLA Student Arrested In Alleged Attempted Rape
An arrest has been made in the latest in a string of unrelated sexual assaults on and around the UCLA campus. Student Thaddeus Staniforth, originally from Fullerton, was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted rape, the school announced Saturday.
Authorities allege the 25-year-old was the suspect who grabbed a woman from behind, pushed her to the ground and straddled her before fleeing about 3:25 Wednesday morning outside Covel Commons on campus. A search warrant on Staniforth's Delta Terrance on-campus suite preceded an arrest Friday night, UCLA police said. The housing complex is next door to the victim's residence building.
After authorities drew up and distributed a composite image of the suspect, some people on campus came forward to point out Staniforth as a possible look-alike, police said. Interestingly, the original "campus alert" described the suspect as "Hispanic."
"Security camera footage and records of electronic key cards used to gain access to the residence halls also were useful in the investigation," a UCLA statement revealed.

Staniforth was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
