Trump's Walk of Fame Star Should Be Removed, Petition Says
Donald Trump is a showman as much as he's a real estate mogul and politician.
He has a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame to prove it.
While Trump is probably best known for his appearances on NBC's The Apprentice, he received his star in 2007 for his work producing Miss Universe pageants, Hollywood Walk of Fame officials told us.
Last week reports that the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which runs the Walk of Fame, was going to remove Trump's star in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard because it was being consistently vandalized and defiled turned out to be based on a "false rumor," according to chamber officials.
This week online social advocacy group Care2 started a petition that asks the chamber to remove Trump's star.
"The fact that Donald Trump has a star along with the likes of Meryl Streep, Bill Murray and Audrey Hepburn is an insult in and of itself,” wrote the petition's author, Kelsey Bourgeois. "The presidential candidate and former reality TV star has been spawning hateful, sexist and racist rhetoric since the beginning of his campaign. Trump’s despicable messaging represents all the worst parts of our national conversation, which explains the public’s disdain for this historical monument to him."
However, organizers of the petition seem to recognize that the removal of a star on the Walk of Fame would be unprecedented.
They noted in a statement that even the star of embattled entertainer Bill Cosby, subject of a similar Care2 campaign following several rape allegations against him, remains.
Care2 told us that Trump's Walk of Fame star represents an endorsement of his political, anti-immigrant rhetoric and that the petition is a symbolic gesture.

We reached out to the chamber, which had no comment. A spokeswoman pointed us to a previous statement from the organization's president, Leron Gubler, who suggested a star is a star for life.
"The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark," he said. "Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk."
The petition, by the way, had almost reached its goal of 16,000 supporters.
