Toymaker Claims Smackdown Win Over WWE
The L.A. Business Journal quotes Malibu-based toymaker Jakks Pacific Inc.'s claim that a U.S. appellate court has thrown out a lawsuit brought by World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. The wrestling-promotion outfit had accused Jakks "of bribery and other actions," according to LABJ.
The U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed an earlier ruling by a New York federal court tossing the WWE suit, Jakks says. The WWE had sought to void toy and video game licenses with the toymaker.
Today there was no sign of the legal acrimony on the two sides' Web sites, with both prominently featuring the wrestling figures for sale. According to Pro Wrestling Insider, WWE will switch to Mattel Inc. once its Jakks contract expires at the end of the year.
