To Catch A (MySpace) Predator: Suspect Who Lured 12-Year-Old Nabbed
Zaby's Motor Lodge.
Authorities over the weekend nabbed a suspect they say used MySpace to lure a 12-year-old girl to a hotel room for sex. Her parents had reported her missing.
Matthew Martinez Casteneda, 33, was arrested over the weekend after allegedly luring the girl to a meeting at a mall and later having sex with her Wednesday, Anaheim police officials said. He allegedly arranged to meet the victim through the social networking site and picked her up at Costa Mesa's South Coast Plaza before taking her via public transit to a park and then to an Anaheim hotel.
Casteneda allegedly had sex with the girl at Zaby's Motor Lodge before leaving her alone in the room and fleeing, authorities said. She flagged down an Anaheim traffic controller for a ride home. The hotel was the site of another alleged sex crime -- a gang rape -- in 2006.
Authorities say the man frequented the hotel and suspect there might be other victims. "We believe this subject has victimized other minors,'' said Anaheim police Lt. Rick Martinez.
The thin man is missing a front tooth, has a pierced left ear, measures about 5 feet 11 inches, has shaved black hair, and has gang tattoos including "13" on his stomach and "CF," for Calle Flores, on his right arm and back. Anyone with more information about him was asked to call 714-497-6608.
